Q3 Member Meeting: Run Improve Grow

AMIP held its Quarter 3 Member Meeting on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024 at VEGA Americas. The keynote speaker was Ray Attiyah, author of Run Improve Grow. We also heard from John Groom, CEO of VEGA Americas, and AMIP’s Susan Whitman, Amy Meyer, and Rachel Farnsworth.

Socializing and networking with new friends and old before the meeting

We began the meeting with networking and a lush breakfast spread courtesy of VEGA. AMIP kicked off the meeting with a welcome from Executive Director Susan Whitman, Board Chair Amy Meyer, and Education Coordinator Rachel Farnsworth.

After a video highlighting VEGA Continuous Improvement Manager Michelle Moore and her work with RIG (credited to Huda Khan), VEGA CEO John Groom took the stage. His thoughtful and engaging presentation enthralled the audience, from personal tales of his upbringing in South Africa and eventual rise to the top of an industry-leading company, to how VEGA’s innovation and values have made it the monolith it is today.

It was then time for our keynote speaker Ray Attiyah: entrepreneur, innovator, poker extraordinaire, and author of Run Improve Grow: Your Roadmap from Firefighting to Bold Business Growth. Ray shared stories of his experiences making businesses the best they can be, included businesses he started like Upside Innovations, mid-size manufacturers like AMIP member GMi, and household names like P&G.

Ray warned attendees of the “Seven Deadly Mindsets” that can befall businesses and prevent innovation. He taught AMIP members how to flip their mental script to the “Seven Daring Mindsets” and stop unintentionally creating limits on growth and creativity in their company. The audience left inspired to take bold and fearless measures, as evidenced by a quote overheard as the crowd moved towards the generous tour-and-lunch combo offered by VEGA: “I’m ready to get to work!”
